Street Shows

Someone told me once, that the thing that will teach you most about performance,
…is an audience that can walk away.

Edinburgh Fringe street performer busker

Ciara Balloon

When I was studying a bachelor of Circus Arts (NICA Australia, 2014-2018) my teacher and mentor Ludwig Schukin said to me “If something scares you… then you need to do it.” You know what scared me (and still does - but there’s a fine line between fear and excitement), making a Street Show. Asking complete strangers to stop in the middle of the street, and watch me do something crazy, something wacky, something ridiculous and dangerous. But it makes me stronger everytime I do it. The Street is the greatest teacher of them all.

The BIG Balloon Stunt Show

So I made a Street Show - and it’s not like other street shows. I don’t juggle knives, I don’t juggle fire and I don’t ride a giant unicycle. And I won’t be eating any apples. It’s family friendly and works as raw street or as part of a festival, I gather crowds of hundreds to watch a Street Show unlike anything they have ever seen. Its ephemeral and its real, and it has a message. It has enabled me to tour the world doing what I love with people that I love. I am so grateful for everything the street and the street performance community has taught me. I stand on the shoulders of giants.
